October 26th Brown Bag Meeting

Speaker: Allan Swain

On Friday, October 26th our guest speaker is Al Swain, the president of Fern Electronics and founding Board Member of the Inventor's Alliance of Northern California (IANC). Al is also the driving force behind one of the most exciting scholarship opportunities that Northern California has ever seen, the Junior Invention Convention.

Al will give a talk describing the Junior Invention Convention Program, now in its third year. The program is like a science fair, but instead of focusing on the scientific method, it showcases the student's ability to create innovative, patentable products. This year's event is bigger than ever with over 1,000 students participating at the local school district level, with 30-40 kids moving on to the Finals to be held at the Redding Convention Center. This year the program is awarding over $18,000 in scholarships, including a professionally drafted US patent. If you are a parent, educator, inventor or just want to learn how to be a part of this great program, then you can't miss this talk. More info is available at www.jrinvent.org.

At Noon on the fourth Friday of every month we host a “Brown Bag” meeting at the Civic Center (City Hall at 777 Cypress Ave). The name of the meeting room is the “Caldwell Park Room” on the second floor (http://www.ci.redding.ca.us/civcenter/conf201.html).

Pizza and drinks are provided!
